Connecting with Kids During Appointments

Does anyone else find that a little humor or a fun fact can really help in calming anxious kids during their dental visits? I’ve started using silly tooth-related jokes, and it’s amazing how much it can lighten the mood… Just last week, a child who was terrified ended up giggling after I asked if they knew why the tooth fairy didn’t like to take a bath! It made the whole appointment smoother.

I totally agree about using humor to ease anxiety! I often use funny animal facts — like how a group of flamingos is called a ‘flamboyance.’ It’s amazing how much a little laughter can change a child’s perspective. Have you tried incorporating any fun visuals or props?

Using humor is such a great tactic! I’ve found that sharing fun facts about teeth can also spark interest — like how our teeth are as strong as a crocodile’s! What’s been the best response you’ve had from a joke?
