Which safety-hold distal end cutter traps.018 x.025 SS without recoil and stays sharp after about 200 autoclave cycles? I’m aiming to prevent wire flicks and cheek pokes during archwire changes, so if you’ve compared Hu-Friedy vs Dentronix (or another), what’s given you the most precise cut and best patient comfort?
But i’ve had better luck with the Dentronix safety-hold on.018 x.025 SS — no recoil if I seat it deep and cut perpendicular — and it stayed sharp a bit past “200 autoclave cycles”; Hu-Friedy felt smoother but dulled sooner, . For comfort, a tiny wax dab on the distal before the cut catches the sliver nicely. What temp/time are you running on your autoclave?
It drives me nuts how tricky it’s to find a reliable distal end cutter. I’ve found that the Dentronix model does an excellent job with those.018 x.025 SS wires as long as you cut straight on. I can’t stand dealing with recoil either; makes everything so much harder during those quick changes.
