Helping Kids Feel Better at the Dentist

I’ve noticed that many kids worry about their dental visits, which can make things more stressful for everyone involved — one technique I’ve found helpful is allowing them to pick a fun dental-themed sticker after their appointment. It gives them something to look forward to and helps ease their anxiety. What strategies do you all use to keep little ones comfortable at the dentist?

Dealing with misplaced notes is a real headache! One thing I do is double-check everything before I finish my shift, using a checklist to ensure all patient files are updated. It takes an extra few minutes but definitely saves time in the long run.

I totally get that! , it drives me nuts when kids are anxious about their appointments. One thing that worked for me was bringing in a favorite toy or book for them to hold during the visit; it really seemed to help them feel more at ease.

The rise in teledentistry is real — I recently had a patient who appreciated the convenience of remote consultations… It’s great for maintaining quality care and addressing patient needs quickly, but I found that establishing trust takes a bit more effort online. Just be sure to stay updated on tech tools that help bridge that gap, like virtual appointment systems.

I love that sticker idea! I’ve found that letting kids choose a silly pair of glasses to wear during their appointment can really lighten the mood. What do you think of that approach?

, kids and their dentist fears can be so frustrating! I’ve found that letting them watch a short cartoon or play a game on a tablet while waiting helps distract them. It’s a simple change, but it can make all the difference in their mood. Plus, rewards like those stickers afterwards are such a great idea! @mitchell79, have you tried any other distractions?

It’s amazing how small things can make a big difference! I tried using a magic wand during my kid’s last appointment — he got to pretend he was casting spells while the dentist did her thing. It was a fun distraction and totally took the edge off.
