We’re clocking most wire changes at 6–7 minutes, but I’m always looking to keep patients relaxed while we stay efficient. Do you have go-to tools or phrasing that helps — like silicone retractors, a bite block, or a 60-second expectations chat before a 0.014 NiTi swap? I’m hoping for ideas that cut cheek fatigue and keep the flow smooth when I’m managing two chairs.
I pre-bend the NiTi to the arch form and preload two ties on a Mathieu; then I drop a Dry-Angle as a cheek “hammock” and use a mini bite prop on the opposite side, which keeps them comfy while I move fast. I tell them, “You’ll feel a gentle stretch for about 20 seconds — blink your cheeks and we’ll switch,” and pop the retractor off between quadrants like a pit stop. Curious if @MartaDA finds minis or standard props better for small arches; staggered sizes have been the best compromise in our clinic.
But i park a curved mosquito (silicone‑sleeved) on the distal as a third hand and give the 0.014 CuNiTi a 3–5 sec Endo-Ice mist first; it threads calmer and I can ligate with softer retraction, cutting cheek fatigue and about 1 minute — works best on thermal NiTi, and I keep spray off tissue… @MartaDA do you chill wires too or prefer them warm?
