Managing pediatric anxiety with simple tools

I’ve recently started using a puppet during appointments to help ease kids’ nerves, and it’s been a game changer. The kids seem to open up a lot more, and it makes the whole experience less intimidating for them. Has anyone else tried similar techniques? What works best for you?

Using a puppet is a clever idea! I’ve found that bringing a simple toy or even a calming music playlist can also work wonders. Kids respond differently, so mixing in various tools might be the key. What kind of puppet are you using?

That’s such a great approach! I find that incorporating deep breathing exercises can really help too — kids often breathe like they’re about to dive into a pool! Have you tried any calming techniques like that in your practice?

I love the puppet idea; i’ve used stickers as rewards, and they really help kids focus on something positive. Have you tried giving out stickers too?

That’s a clever approach! I’ve found that keeping a simple bubble wand handy can turn nervousness into laughter — who doesn’t love popping some bubbles? Have you thought about adding a little craft time to distract them, like coloring a picture of their favorite animal?
