Outreach shifts for aspiring dental assistants

We set up a two-chair mobile clinic in the Southside every other Saturday and I’m opening 3-hour volunteer shifts focused on sealants, fluoride, and gentle patient coaching. If you’re early in your DA journey, what hands-on skills do you most want to practice so I can shape onboarding and make this a real community win?

Drill moisture control for sealants — HVE + cotton rolls — in the ‘3-hour’ blocks? If tight, do a 5-min four-handed passing huddle.

In the 3-hour blocks, can we practice ‘varnish talk’ + rapid charting? If no radiometer, quick curing-light output demo?

For a two-chair mobile, I’d love a rapid turnover drill: preset sealant/fluoride trays, wipe-down, bag-and-tag, and reset in under 4 minutes with a timer. Add quick reps for bite-block sizing and DryShield/Isolite insertion to keep flow while we coach; if supplies are tight, a saliva ejector + cheek retractor fallback works. @stanley_hooper89 solid on teamwork — can we rotate one DA as a sterilization lead each Saturday to lock in the habit?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

I’d love a quick “tell–show–do” micro-drill: practice a 60-second script before the first sealant — e.g., “You’re in charge; hand up = pause,” with mirror in hand and eye contact… And can we add a floss + articulating paper check right after each sealant to catch high spots and stuck contacts? If time’s tight, fold it into @jason_r84’s turnover flow — pit-crew style.
