Considering swapping our standard flush cutters for safety-hold distal end cutters to prevent wire fly-offs at deband and keep lips and cheeks safe… For those using them, does the capture feature reliably hold.019 x.025 SS and NiTi tips without distorting the wire, and have you noticed faster, smoother archwire removals chairside?
On ours (Hu‑Friedy), if you fully seat the beaks and do one firm squeeze — no “chewing” — the capture holds.019×.025 SS and NiTi cleanly and removals are quicker; the only caveat is the silicone pad gets nicked over time and NiTi can slip, so swap that insert when you see wear. Which brand are you eyeing?
Switched to the AO Safety Hold last year — captures.019×.025 SS and NiTi cleanly and removals feel faster; I only saw distortion when the edge started to dull. Caveat: after heavy autoclave cycles the jaws can drift and the catch misses, so we do a quick weekly card-cut test and a drop of lube post-sterilization to keep it tight. @stanley_hooper89 have you had to re‑tension or send yours out for sharpening?
