Simple CBCT–IO scan merge workflow for assistants

If you’re pairing a CS 8100 3D CBCT with a Medit i700 scan, the quickest path I’ve found is import DICOM into BlueSkyPlan, add the PLY, run three-point alignment, then lock the model before planning; takes under 2 minutes once set up. From our CS 8100 + i700 routine: I trim the IO PLY to just the arch before import, then use three points on canine tips and palatal rugae — alignment snaps fast and I ‘lock the model’ before anything else. If there’s heavy metal scatter, skip molar cusps for landmarks; it’s like lining up bitewings — pick clear edges and don’t overthink it.

I shave the IO to about 2–3 mm above the gingival margin in Medit, then in BlueSkyPlan do the three points and hit Refine/Optimize so it locks to enamel; I lock the CT instead of the model so nothing drifts during planning. @tgarcia92 your arch-trim note pairs well with this — have you tried it?

I pre-orient CS 8100 to Frankfort in BlueSkyPlan; ‘lock the model’, then refine; still under 2 minutes. MAR can drift.
