Tips for Managing Patient Anxiety

I’ve been finding that many of our patients feel anxious when they come in for their orthodontic appointments, especially kids. One technique that seems to help is explaining what each tool does before I use it — it not only calms them down but also keeps them engaged. Has anyone else found effective ways to ease patient anxiety during treatments?

Explaining the tools is a solid approach — I’ve seen playing calming music help too. It creates a relaxing atmosphere that can really ease their nerves. Have you tried anything like that?

I totally get that! Sometimes, a little distraction helps too — maybe let them squeeze a stress ball or play a fun game on a tablet while they’re waiting. Have you noticed if kids respond better to certain distractions?

I’ve found that incorporating a simple breathing exercise can help too. It’s amazing how calming they can be! Have you had a chance to try that?

One thing I’ve found helpful is using a little humor to lighten the mood, like comparing the dental chair to a rocket ship ready for takeoff. It might make the kids giggle and help ease their nerves. Have you tried any fun themes in your office?
