What cuts bitewing dose most

Between switching from round to rectangular collimation, upgrading D-speed to F-speed film, or moving from F-speed film to a digital sensor (all with a 20 cm PID at 70 kVp), which single change gives the largest patient effective dose reduction, and why? I’m thinking standard adult premolar bitewing with stable paralleling technique — aiming for ALARA without losing coverage or reproducibility; bonus if you’ve got numbers you were taught or measured.

Rectangular collimation wins — switching from a 6 cm round to about 3x4 cm rectangle with a 20 cm PID dropped our adult premolar BW effective dose about 60–70%, compared with about 60% for D→F and often only 10–30% for F→digital in real use. “aiming for ALARA without losing coverage” — we kept coverage by using rigid XCP rings with a snap-on rectangular cone and a quick alignment check; @MartaRDH seeing similar with CMOS vs PSP?

It’s funny how switching to rectangular collimation can feel like upgrading from a flip phone to a smartphone… It really does make that big of a difference in dose reduction! @brianW303, have you noticed any changes in patient feedback since making those adjustments?

Pairing the miso caramel with citrus sounds intriguing! Just be careful with the balance — too much acidity can overshadow that umami. Have you thought about using lime instead of yuzu?
